Year after year, the Geneva Motor Show brings together some of the world’s most beautiful and powerful cars that car manufacturers have spend months or even years designing and refining specifically for this event. Then, here comes a very custom, very wild speedster version of the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, the J, that totally steals the limelight. Strip away the roof, the windscreen, and all the modern accessories you expect in the cabin like climate control and navigation and fit in two small wind deflectors and you get what Lamborghini itself calls an “indescribable experience of power.” Lamborghini also switched out their typical interior fabric for a new carbon fiber fabric in an effort to save weight without a difference in comfort or style. The J, however, uses the same 700-horsepower, 6.5-liter V12 and exterior body features as its hardtop cousin that allows Lamborghini to confidently state that their open-air roadster can hit speeds as high as 186 miles per hour. Now, the bad news. The J isn’t for sale. The only model ever made or that will be made has already been sold to an unidentified buyer for 2.1 million Euros. A guy can still dream, right?

Apple will unveil its next-generation iPad on Wednesday during a press conference in San Francisco. While the Cupertino, California-based company may have a few surprises in store for us, Apple’s supply chain has been leaking like a sieve over the past few months. The result is what should be a relatively complete picture of the “iPad 3? — or “iPad HD,” as it may be named — that has come together as follows:

• High-definition display — Apple’s next-generation iPad will sport a Retina-like HD display that packs four times the pixels (2,048 x 1,536) in the same 9.7-inch size. The result should be absolutely gorgeous.
• 4G LTE — The rumor mill has gone back and forth about 4G, but our exclusive report from last month made embedded 4G LTE connectivity a very likely possibility.
• Quad-core — The new iPad is expected to feature a quad-core Apple A6 processor to make this the smoothest iPad yet. Rumors of an enhanced dual-core A5X chip surfaced recently, but many speculate that the new dual-core chip may be destined for other devices rather than the next iPad.
• Slightly thicker case — That amazing new display is going to need some more juice to ensure battery life isn’t compromised, and the new iPad is expected to be about 1 millimeter thicker than the current iPad 2.
• Better battery — Early reports suggested the new iPad would feature double the battery life of the iPad 2, but those rumors have become a bit foggy in light of the new iPad’s HD display. It’s possible that the bigger battery Apple is using in its upcoming iPad is merely intended to compensate for the new screen.
• Better camera — Leaked images of the new iPad’s case show a bigger camera lens, but megapixel count is still a mystery. Rumors have ranged from 3 megapixels up to the same 8-megapixel unit in Apple’s iPhone 4S.
• iOS 5.1 — Developers have had their hands on iOS 5.1 for quite some time now, and the new iPad will be the first device to launch with the new build pre-installed.
• Brand new iPad, same old pricing — Despite earlier rumors, expect six versions of Apple’s new tablet, with three Wi-Fi-only models priced at $499, $599 and $699, and cellular connectivity available for each at a $130 premium. Apple may also sell a new version of its iPad 2 with less internal storage for $399 alongside its next-generation iPads.

We’ve been told by a Apple Store source who has been reliable in the past that preparations are being made for a big Apple Store event which will culminate on Friday, March 16th.  Naturally, this points to an iPad 3 launch on the Friday just nine days after tomorrow’s announcement.  We’ve previously noted that an Apple Store in London at the world famous Harrod’s will open on that date as well as a new Store in Houston, Texas.

Speaking of Texas, Apple will NOT be putting up a temporary store at SXSW in Austin this year according to the The Austin American-Statesman.  Last year, Apple built a temporary Store at the event that coincided with the launch of the iPad 2.

Last year, Apple’s then-CEO, Steve Jobs, announced the release of the iPad 2 on March 2. The pop-up store opened at the start of the SXSW Interactive Festival on March 11, 2011. The store, at the Scarbroughs building on Congress Avenue and Sixth Street, sold the tablet, as well as accessories, during the festival.

The show runs from March 9-13 this year.

Yesterday, two simultaneous reports came out stating the name of Apple’s new product would be the ‘iPad HD’ and recently more and (iM)ore evidence points to an LTE version being announced. Today, Verizon began teasing a “Something is Coming” campaign.

Interestingly, we were told that there would be a subsequent launch event a week later but he had no further information on the the subject matter.  This could be a separate Apple product (AppleTV?) or perhaps additional International launches of the iPad.

We’ll have live coverage of tomorrow’s event as it unfolds.

A U.S. judge has ordered Google and Motorola Mobility to turn over information about the development of the Android operating system and Google’s pending $12.5 billion acquisition of the manufacturer to Apple, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday. Motorola opposed Apple’s request, arguing that Google isn’t a party to the lawsuit. “Google’s employees and documents are not within the ‘possession, custody, or control’ of Motorola, and Motorola cannot force Google to produce documents or witnesses over Google’s objections,” the vendor’s lawyers said in a court filing on Monday. Apple’s attorneys argued that “the Android/Motorola acquisition discovery is highly relevant to Apple’s claims and defenses.” Judge Richard A. Posner has scheduled back-to-back trials before two separate juries starting June 11th. The first trial will address six Apple patents while the second will cover three Motorola patents.

While you might be familiar with iFixit from its in-depth teardown guides meant to provide the ultimate resource for DIYers, it also offers the necessary tools to get the job done. We told you a while back about its “iPhone oppression kit” allowing you to swap out Apple’s pentalobular screws with standard Phillips screws. Stemming from a discovery of two unused mounting points in its recent 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac teardowns, iFixit is now providing a kit that provides all the tools necessary to install a second hard drive in your mid 2011 iMac.

The iMac Mid 2011 Dual Hard Drive Kit ($69.95) is available for both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch models and comes with a Custom SATA power cable, SATA data cable, custom-cut 3M VHB double-sided mounting tape, two heavy-duty suction cups, spudger, and a 26 piece bit driver kit. Of course, the suction cups are for removing your LCD to get inside the iMac (pictured right). It is definitely not the easiest second hard drive installation, but iFixit put together detailed instructions for both models here and here.

The kit does not come with the hard drive itself, so for that you will have to get your hands on a 2.5-inch SATA drive. iFixit recommends installing “OS X on an SSD for lightning fast startup times, while still being able to use your original hard drive for mass storage.” Or you can always just toss a 1 TB HD in there for storage.
