Though winter’s not officially over till a few weeks from now, the unseasonably warm weather here in the U.S. have retailers scrambling for solutions. But all is not doom and gloom for the Franco-Italian label. It is still putting out premium down-filled jackets for globe trotters and jet setters, though the outside temperature is nearing the level of an warm spring day. The secret of its success is simple, put together the best of everything and price it at its “true value”. Yes, some jackets are well over the $1,000 mark. But you can certainly imagine yourself wearing that same jacket, ten or twenty years down the road. Now that is what we call “value driven”. Nokia on Tuesday released a teaser video showing off the remarkable camera included on a handset it plans to unveil next week at the annual Mobile World Congress trade Show in Barcelona, Spain. The device is thought to be a high-end Windows Phone with a 12-megapixel camera that has surfaced in a number of earlier reports. A new report on Wednesday claims that Nokia has plans to announce a new cheaper Windows Phone at the show next week as well, however, suggesting that the Finnish phone maker plans to address multiple market segments with its Windows Phone announcements once again. During the Nokia’s first round of Windows Phone announcements, the vendor unveiled the high-end Lumia 800 and the entry-level Lumia 710, an affordable handset currently available for just $39.99 on contract from T-Mobile in the United States. The company then unveiled a second high-end Windows Phone at last month’s Consumer Electronics Show, the ATT-bound Lumia 900. Now, Reuters reports that Nokia will take the wraps off the Lumia 610, “a new, cheaper smartphone using Microsoft’s Windows Phone software,” at next week’s conference.

Reuters also reaffirms earlier reports stating that Nokia plans to unveil an international version of the Lumia 900 set to launch on ATT next month. It is likely that this high-end smartphone is the camera phone referenced in Nokia’s new teaser video, which follows below.

The Museum of Contemporary Art won huge points last year with their Art in the Streets exhibition, a show that consisted of a laundry list of top names in the still ill-defined world of “street art”. Consisting of everyone from graf writers to wheat pasters to general misfits with a canvas, works from the likes of FUTURA, JR, Lee Quinones, Mister Cartoon, Os Gemeos, Retna, REVOK, SABER, Shepard Fairey, and Swoon were all on display. Following the momentous occasion is this video breakdown, a thirty minute spot that goes behind the scenes to tell the story of how Art in the Streets at the MOCA came to be, as told by the heralded artists who took part. Although were not exactly sure when it went live, Apple seems to be rolling out a “Mastered for iTunes” section on iTunes worldwide that is populated with albums “specially tuned for higher fidelity sound.” Yesterday Universal Music Group announced several new additions to the section. New albums from WMG added to Mastered for iTunes include Madonna’s “MDNA,” U2?s “Achtung Baby,” Paul McCartney’s “Kisses On The Bottom,” and other albums from Bon Jovi, John Coltrane, and classical guitarist Kaori Muraji. Apple also recently published a white paper detailing best practices for mastering music for iTunes, and released new “Apple Audio Mastering Tools”…

To go with the section, Apple recently published a PDF detailing best practices for mastering and preparing music for distribution on iTunes. The document, titled “Music as the Artist and Sound Engineer Intended,” essentially asked publishers to submit high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz files, and not original CD masters to create the 256kbps files introduced with iTunes Plus in 2007. Apple noted: “Keeping the highest quality masters available in our systems allows for full advantage of future improvements to your music.” Apple explained it would check music submitted for “Mastered for iTunes” to make sure songs “begin with a high resolution digitization of the original analog source” and “sound noticeably superior.”

Apple also recently released new “Apple Audio Mastering Tools” which now only includes the “Mastered for iTunes droplet.” The tool is a standalone, drag-and-drop OS X utility that allows you to “automate the creation of iTunes Plus format masters” and preview music using the encoding tech Apple’s uses for the iTunes library. Apple explained:

You can use the Master for iTunes Droplet to automate the creation of iTunes Plus format masters. The Droplet creates an AAC audio file from an AIFF or WAVE source file by first generating a CAF (Core Audio File) rendered with an iTunes sound check profile applied to the file. If the sample rate of the source file is greater than 44.1 kHz, it’s downsampled to 44.1 kHz using our mastering-quality SRC. Next, it uses this newly rendered CAF to render a high quality AAC audio file. Once the final AAC audio file is generated, the intermediary CAF is deleted.

Google may be in the process of bringing its mobile operating system to desktop and notebook computers, according to a recent patent filing. The patent, which was discovered by Patently Apple, showcases desktop control features similar to Apple’s multitouch MacBook trackpad and Magic Trackpad. The current Android operating system has been designed for touch commands and actions, however in the future it may be expanded to support different means of control, Google said in the patent overview. Using a multitouch trackpad, a user can “directly interact with graphical elements located at the current pointer location as if they are using a touchscreen device, and perform traditional touchscreen operations (e.g., dragging/flinging content, scrolling).” Following Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility, it is believed that the Mountain View-based company will now explore a variety of new hardware products.

In the words of Mark Parker, think of “HTM as the AMG of sneakers”, performance tuned and highly stylized. HTM which is now just over 10 years old is the collaborative efforts of Japanese style icon Hiroshi Fujiwara, then designers Tinker Hatfield and Mark Parker. The three of which may also be the founding fathers behind what is now the Nike Innovation Kitchen. Last night, Nike held a private media event at 21 Mercer to celebrate the latest innovation and the newest addition to the HTM family with Hiroshi Fujiwara and Mark Parker. In addition to presenting the HTM Fly Knit, the two also answered questions on the history of HTM and offered some insights on the HTM model. Interesting to note is that as the team brainstorms, cost is never a factor in deciding how a Nike HTM sneaker is designed, only the best materials and technologies are considered. Thus the reason for the higher prices for HTM versions of the sneakers but you are paying for the innovation of three of the most successful designers in the sneaker world. PlayBook owners, How are you liking the PlayBook OS 2 software update?

We’re barely through 30 hours of use following yesterday’s 5am EST release of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, but we figured given all the PlayBook 2.0 craziness on the site and in our PlayBook forums that it was time for us to check in with a quick owner’s poll. 

When we originally reviewed the BlackBerry PlayBook, the two biggest strikes against it were the lack of native email, calendar and contacts along with a lack of compelling apps in BlackBerry Word. PlayBook 2.0 addresses the native messaging and information management gap in a big way, with what I think is a pretty awesomely-implemented solution, including oodles of social integration. And with more time to get apps on the platform and the introduction of the Android App Player in 2.0, the app gap is closing too (of course there are still some big titles like Skype, Netflix and Kindle that we’re waiting to see appear in App World). 

OS 2.0 brought with it a lot more than the above — our full walk through is coming soon — and overall I’m pretty happy with the update (I voted Loving It! Go #TeamBlackBerry). Yes, there are still plenty of things I’d like to see (which I’ll point out in my full review coming next week once I have spent more quality time on 2.0), but knowing 2.0 isn’t the end game but part of the bigger journey into BlackBerry 10 puts it into perspective. As was discussed in our interview with Michael Clewley from RIM’s PlayBook team yesterday, PlayBook OS 2 provides the foundation for BlackBerry 10, which is an entirely new platform that RIM is migrating over to. There are a lot of services that RIM still has to bring over from BBOS to the PlayBook OS/BlackBerry 10 and we know there’s a lot more still to come (like native BBM on the PlayBook).
